Strong International Fields to Race B.A.A. 10K

By Adam Kopet

Aliphine Tuliamuk is the top American athlete entered in Sunday's B.A.A. 10K, which will run through the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston.

ENTRIES

Tuliamuk has had success since joining the HOKA ONE ONE Northern Arizona Elite. She has continued to collect USATF national titles on the roads and she ran impressive 2:26:50 for third place at this year's Rotterdam Marathon.

Tuliamuk, who will be joined by Americans Katie NewtonMolly SeidelLindsay Flanagan and Emily Durgin, face stiff competition from the field of international runners.

Chief among the visiting runners is Fancy Chemutai of Kenya. She owns the second fastest half marathon ever run at 1:04:52 and has run 30:06 for 10K on the roads. The latter ranks her second on the all-time performer list.

Also competing from Kenya are Betsy Saina, Sharon Lokedi and Caroline Rotich. Both Saina and Lokedi are products of the NCAA system, with Lokedi finishing her career at Kansas last year and won the 10,000 meters at the 2018 NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships. Rotich was the B.A.A. 10K runner-up in 2018. She also won the 2015 Boston Marathon.

The men's race features five Kenyan runners who have run under 28 minutes on the roads, including Geoffrey Koech and Stephen Sambu who hold the fastest personal bests in the field at 27:18 and 27:25, respectively.

The top Americans include Sid Vaughn, Trevor Dunbar and Brian Shrader. Abdi Abdirahman holds the fastest American personal road best in the field at 28:11, but the 40-year old has not run a personal best since 2015.
